Clinical Services · Support coordination

NDIS support coordination in Melbourne, from a team based in Cranbourne.

A support coordinator helps you turn the plan the NDIA gave you into supports that actually happen. Ours pick up the phone, know the south-east, and tell you the truth about your options.

NDIS support item: Support Coordination (registration group 0132): Level 2 Coordination of Supports and Level 3 Specialist Support Coordination

What a support coordinator actually does

When a plan arrives it is a list of budgets, not a list of people. A support coordinator reads it with you, explains what each budget can and cannot pay for, and then finds, books and brokers the providers you choose. They set up service agreements, check the invoices make sense, and step in when a provider lets you down.

Over the life of the plan they keep an eye on how the money is tracking, help you prepare for a plan reassessment with evidence rather than guesswork, and build your own confidence to manage things, so you need them less over time. That last part matters: good coordination works itself out of a job.

At Newdawn the coordinator you meet is the coordinator you keep. You get a direct number, a reply the same business day, and someone who already knows the hospitals, housing providers and therapists around Casey, Cardinia and Greater Dandenong.

What is included

Six things your coordinator takes off your plate

Everything below is funded from the Support Coordination line in your plan, not from your pocket.

Understanding your plan

A plain-English walk-through of every budget, what it is for, how flexible it is, and what is left.

Finding and booking providers

Shortlists that fit your goals and your suburb, introductions, service agreements and start dates.

Housing and hospital discharge

SIL, SDA, respite and medium-term options, lined up before discharge rather than after.

Getting the team talking

GP, therapists, school, plan manager and family kept on the same page, with you deciding what is shared.

When something goes wrong

A provider not showing up, a budget running dry, a crisis at home. We act the same day and record what happened.

Plan reassessment, prepared

Reports gathered, goals written in NDIA language, and a clear case for what you need next.

Funding, in plain English

Paid from your plan, never from your pocket

Support coordination sits in the Capacity Building part of your plan, under its own line. It is a stated budget: the hours are set by the NDIA and cannot be swapped for other supports. Because it is funded separately, choosing a coordinator does not reduce the money available for your support workers, therapy or equipment.

The NDIS Pricing Arrangements set a price limit per hour. For the 2026-27 year the limit is $100.14 an hour for Level 2 Coordination of Supports and $190.54 an hour for Level 3 Specialist Support Coordination. We charge at or below the limit and we never charge for time you did not receive. Every invoice shows the date, the task and the minutes.

How many hours you have depends on your plan. A first plan often funds more hours for the early months, when there is more to set up, and fewer once things are running. If you are close to using the hours up, we tell you early and help you ask for more if it is warranted.

Price limits change each July. The figures above are the current NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits; check the NDIS website or ask us for the latest.

How it works

From first call to first provider, in weeks not months

  1. 01

    A real conversation

Call, refer online or ask your LAC to send us your plan. A coordinator calls you back the same business day.

  2. 02

    Plan walk-through

We meet where you prefer: your home, our Cranbourne office, a hospital ward or on video. We read the plan with you and agree what matters first.

  3. 03

    Providers in place

Shortlists within days, introductions and service agreements within weeks. You choose, we do the chasing.

  4. 04

    Check-ins and reviews

Regular contact, budget tracking you can see, and a prepared case before every reassessment.

Coordinators who already know the south-east

Our head office is in Cranbourne, so most of our coordinators live and work along the Cranbourne and Pakenham corridors. They know the discharge teams at Casey Hospital in Berwick and Dandenong Hospital, the SIL and SDA homes with real vacancies around Clyde North, Pakenham and Narre Warren, and which allied health practices in the area are actually taking new NDIS participants.

We also coordinate for people across Melbourne, Frankston and the Mornington Peninsula, and into Gippsland through our Traralgon home. In Queensland and Western Australia our Caboolture and West Perth offices run the same model with local coordinators.

Questions we get asked

Straight answers.

If yours is not here, call and ask. It is what we are for.

What is the difference between Level 2 and Level 3 support coordination?

Level 2, Coordination of Supports, is the standard service: understanding the plan, connecting with providers, managing service agreements and preparing for reviews. Level 3, Specialist Support Coordination, is funded when a situation is complex or high risk, for example forensic involvement, repeated hospital admissions, housing breakdown or several agencies involved at once. It is delivered by a more experienced coordinator and funded at a higher hourly rate. Your plan states which level you have.

Can I change my NDIS support coordinator?

Yes, at any time. You do not need the NDIA's permission to change providers. Check your current service agreement for the notice period, tell your current coordinator in writing, and we handle the rest: we request your plan, pick up open tasks and make sure no supports lapse during the handover. You can also ask the NDIA to change the coordinator named on your plan.

Does support coordination cost me anything?

No. It is paid from the Support Coordination budget in your plan, which the NDIA funds specifically for this. There is no gap fee, no joining fee and no charge for the first phone call.

How many hours of support coordination will I get?

The NDIA sets the hours in your plan based on how complex your situation is. The budget is stated in dollars; divide it by the hourly price limit to see your hours. We show you how the hours are tracking at every check-in, and we never run them down with tasks you could do yourself.

Newdawn also provides support workers and homes. Is that a conflict of interest?

It can be, so we manage it openly. Your coordinator shows you options from the whole market, not just ours. If you choose a Newdawn service for something else, we record that you were offered alternatives, confirm it in writing, and you can change your mind at any time. The NDIS Code of Conduct and our own policy require this, and you can ask to see the policy.

Can a support coordinator help me get out of hospital?

Yes, and it is one of the most useful things we do. We work with the ward social worker or discharge planner, line up short-term, medium-term or SIL accommodation, arrange support workers and nursing for the first days home, and make sure equipment and medication plans are in place before you leave.

What is the difference between a support coordinator, an LAC and a plan manager?

A Local Area Coordinator (LAC) is an NDIA partner who helps you apply, build your plan and connect with community services, but does not coordinate providers day to day. A plan manager pays invoices and tracks budgets. A support coordinator finds and manages the providers and supports in your plan. Many people have all three, and we work alongside the other two.

Do you coordinate for people with psychosocial or forensic needs?

Yes. Complex mental health and forensic support is a Newdawn specialty, and our Level 3 coordinators have worked with mental health services, Forensicare, Corrections Victoria and the courts. We understand reporting obligations, supervision orders and the need for supports that do not fall over.
