Disability Services · Household tasks

Help at home with household tasks, across Melbourne.

Cleaning, laundry, meals, the garden and the shopping, done by a worker you know, so your home stays somewhere you want to be. Based in Cranbourne, covering the south-east.

NDIS support item: Assistance with Household Tasks (registration group 0120), support category Assistance with Daily Life (Core)

What household task support covers

Household tasks are the jobs that keep a home running: vacuuming and mopping, cleaning the kitchen and bathroom, changing beds, washing, cooking, mowing and the weekly shop. The NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) funds help with them when your disability means you cannot do them safely and nobody else in your household can reasonably do them for you.

Support can be hands-on, where the worker does the task, or side-by-side, where the worker does it with you so you keep the skill. Most people want a mix: the bathroom cleaned and the lawns mown, but cooking done together. Someone with a psychosocial disability may need help starting rather than finishing. We ask, write it down and follow it.

The same worker comes each week, learns where things go and notices when something is wrong: an empty fridge, unopened mail, a fall risk in the hallway. That continuity is why household support sits well alongside personal care and life skills work, often in the same shift.

What is included

Six jobs we take off your list

All six sit under the Assistance with Daily Life budget in the Core part of your plan.

Cleaning

Vacuuming, mopping, dusting, kitchen and bathroom cleaning, bins out, and a deeper clean of the rooms you use most.

Laundry and linen

Washing, drying, folding, ironing and putting away, plus changing the beds. We use your products and your system.

Meal preparation

Planning meals you like, cooking with you or for you, batch cooking for the freezer, and following any dietary plan.

Shopping

A weekly shop with you at Cranbourne Park or your local supermarket, or an online order unpacked if going out is hard.

Garden and yard

Mowing, edging, weeding and basic yard upkeep so the garden stays safe and the lease stays in order.

Keeping on top of it

A simple home routine written with you, so jobs happen in a sensible order and nothing is forgotten between visits.

Funding, in plain English

Core funding with its own price limit

Household tasks are paid from the Core budget under Assistance with Daily Life. Core funding is flexible, so unless your plan states a fixed amount you can move hours between household tasks, personal care and community participation as your needs change through the year.

The NDIS Pricing Schedule sets a lower hourly limit for household tasks than for personal care, because the work does not need the same training. For 2026-27 the limit for House Cleaning and Other Household Activities is $60.10 an hour. Where the same worker also provides personal care in the shift, the personal care rate may apply, and we explain which rate we are using before you sign.

Gardening and yard maintenance has its own line in the schedule. If you only need a mow once a fortnight, a gardening service may cost less than a support worker, and we say so. Our funding guide and plan management guide explain how the budgets and payment options fit together.

Figures are from the current NDIS Pricing Schedule 2026-27, which replaced the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits, and usually change each July. Ask us or check ndis.gov.au for the latest.

Close to home

Local workers, short travel, more time on the job

Our head office is in Cranbourne and our household support workers live across Cranbourne, Clyde North, Berwick, Officer, Pakenham, Narre Warren, Dandenong and Frankston. Short travel means the hour you pay for is spent in your home, not on the Monash. We also set up homes for people leaving Casey Hospital in Berwick, Dandenong Hospital and Frankston Hospital, so the fridge is full before discharge day.

Support is available in 17 languages and in Auslan. Our Caboolture office in Queensland and West Perth office in Western Australia run the same model, with local workers and the same written home routine.

Questions we get asked

Straight answers.

If yours is not here, call and ask. It is what we are for.

Does the NDIS pay for cleaning?

Yes, when your disability means you cannot clean your home safely and nobody else in the household can reasonably be expected to do it. It is funded from the Core budget as Assistance with Household Tasks. The NDIS does not fund cleaning any household would need regardless of disability, so a planner looks at what you and others at home can do.

What is the difference between household tasks and personal care?

Personal care is support with your own body: showering, dressing, toileting, eating and medication prompts. Household tasks are support with your home: cleaning, laundry, meals, shopping and the garden. Both sit in the Core budget under Assistance with Daily Life, but household tasks have a lower hourly price limit. One worker can do both in a single shift.

Can the worker cook meals for me?

Yes. Meal preparation is a household task. The worker can plan meals with you, shop for ingredients, cook with you or for you, and batch cook for the week, following any plan from your dietitian or speech pathologist. If you want to learn to cook rather than have it done, that is life skills support and we set it up that way.

Does the NDIS pay for gardening and lawn mowing?

It can, where your disability stops you doing it and it is needed to keep your home safe and your tenancy in order. Yard maintenance has its own line in the Pricing Schedule. For a simple mow a gardening service is sometimes cheaper than a support worker, and we tell you if so. Landscaping and improvements are not funded.

Will I get the same worker each week?

Yes, that is how we roster household support. You meet the worker first, and they come on a fixed day and learn how you like things done. If they are sick or on leave we call you beforehand and offer someone who has read your home routine, or you can reschedule. You can ask for a different worker at any time without giving a reason.

Do I need to supply cleaning products and equipment?

Usually yes. The NDIS funds the worker's time, and cleaning products, a vacuum cleaner or a mower are ordinary living costs. If your disability means you need specific equipment, such as a lightweight vacuum, that may be funded as an assistive product, and your occupational therapist can advise. We work with what you have and tell you if something is unsafe.

Can I get household support if I live with my family?

Sometimes. The NDIS expects adults in a household to share ordinary chores, so it will not usually fund cleaning for a whole family home. It can fund the tasks that are yours alone, or tasks a family carer cannot reasonably add to the care they already provide. Describe the household honestly in your planning meeting, and ask us if unsure.

How many hours of household support can I get?

There is no set number. It depends on your home, your disability and what the planner decides is reasonable and necessary. Many people have two to four hours a week; some have a fortnightly visit. Your plan gives a dollar budget rather than hours, and your plan manager can show you how far it stretches at the current price limit.
